How to send Google+ Invites to your friends

Many of my friends have been asking me how can they send Google+ invitations to their friends. So I thought I’d write a quick post on it.

Right now, Google has taken off the “Send Invites” feature that is supposed to look like the picture below and is supposed to appear on the Right-hand-side bar.

However, there’s a round-about-way to invite your friends to Google+ which I learned as I joined the network, from Adnan (who also sent me the actual invitation to join – so Thanks! again). So without further ado, here’s how you invite your friends to Google+

How to Send a Google+ Invitation

1. Go to “Circles”

2. Click on “Add a new person” and add your friend by their email or their name

3. Once the friend is added, drag and drop the little “box”, which appears with their name, into one of the “Circles” below

4. Now go back to the “Home” page and do a “status update. Type something… I would type “You’re Invited to G+” or something along those lines.

5. Then “tag” the friend that you previously added to circles. Don’t forget to remove the Public tag and also to unmark the “Also email ### people not yet using Google+

6. Finally, post it by clicking on the “Share” button.

There!Β Now you’ve gone and sent an invitation to Google+ πŸ™‚

How to Respond to a Google+ Invitation

Alright, so what happens on the other end? How would you know they’ve got an invitation to Google+ and how are you supposed to respond to it? Here’s how it goes…

1. You receiveΒ an email from the person who sent you an invitation to Google+, which looks like this:

2. Go click on the blue colored link that would say something like “View or comment on Your Friend’s post>>

3. Β Once you click on that link, you’ll come to a page that looks like this:

4. Β Go ahead and click on the “JOIN GOOGLE+” button that appears in red, on this page.

Now you will be directed to your very own Google+ page! It would look something like this:

That’s about it. What I did after this was, invite some friends real quick because I’ve promised to do so. Then I went on to complete my profile and adjust my privacy settings on the profile. The rest is history lol

Oh, and remember, just in case Google hasΒ temporarilyΒ disabled invites at the time you send the invitation, your friend willΒ receive the email that I mentioned, only when Google re-enable invitations. This may happen on and off so don’t worry too much about it.Β Hope this helped at least some of you, in some way. Let me know if you have any issues and I will try to help in any way I can.

UPDATE:

Thought I’d add some interesting posts about Google+ so that it would help you find more information.

  1. Hello Indulekha! I really need an invitation for google, would you please send me one? I would highly appreciate it! Thank you very much!!! πŸ˜€ My email is nickakor [at] gmail.com

  2. @ Nikos, Carlos and Gerard – Sent you all invitations just now πŸ™‚ But I hear that email invitations have been disabled again. So just keep checking your mail time to time. Hopefully it would be back on soon. We’ll just have to be patient till then…

  3. @Nikos – As far as I can understand, there’s no limitation on the profile but limitations may be set by Google by disabling invitations from time to time.
    @Cyril – Invitation sent. Check mail πŸ™‚
ALL – Let me know when you get your G+ invites okay?

  4. This actually worked!( atleast a message was sent to friends, and the rest is in the hands of Google almighty). Thanks and greetings from Jordan!

  5. Hi …I have been seeing dat…though I have sent some invitaions 2 my frnds..dey r facing an error which says. “This feature is not available for your account.
You must be over a certain age to use this feature.”…though we are of the same age…& I didn’t get nythng like dat while joining…

  6. @Komal,
Try this, just follow through all the links till you get to what ever the deadend. Then go to Gmail. Check for a +You or +”your name” (eg: +Komal) on the upper Left-hand corner where you see Gmail, Calendar, Documents, Photos…

Click on your name and see if it leads you to G+. You can also try checking on a red color tiny box shaped icon on the top Right-hand side of your Gmail (possibly with a number) click on it and follow through the stories.

Let me know how it goes?

  7. Really? ah…. Alright let me try create a new account and try it for myself. If there’s a round about way, I’ll come back and post it πŸ™‚
Don’t worry, Google will make it available for public soon! So, don’t give up all hope πŸ˜‰
